Jody Hartley shoots the Cash and Carry

Jody Hartley shoots the Cash and Carry, Moderate Studio journal, 2018

Jody Hartley came to photograph the station properly while it was still the Cash and Carry. The frontage in the snow, the roof trusses above the shop floor, the greenway running dark under the railway bridge.

Jody is my best friend and a brilliant photographer, and we have done a lot together. He has been photographing my artwork and events for as long as I can remember. He was living in Levenshulme at the time too, so asking him to shoot the station was the obvious thing to do.

Good photographs of a building before it changes are worth having. In a few years none of this will look the same, the blue shutters and the fluorescent strip lights gone.

The pictures have earned their keep since. They have been used on the website, in the campaign, on social media, and in an exhibition at the station itself, the building shown back to people as it used to be.

A record of the before. Photographs by Jody Hartley.
