What this site collects

Very little. There are no comments, no accounts and no newsletter sign-up. You can read almost the whole site without giving me anything.

The exception is the enquiry form on the contact page, and the shorter version of it on the web design page. That is the only part of this site that collects anything, and only if you choose to fill it in.

The enquiry form

It asks for your name and your email address. Those are the only two things it needs, and the email is there so I can reply.

Everything else depends on which kind of enquiry you pick, and is yours to answer or skip: the date of an event, where it is, roughly how many people, a rough budget, what you would need me to bring. There is no phone field.

The form sends me an email. It does not save your enquiry into the website, so there is no list of them sitting in the database. The one exception is if that email fails to send, when the site keeps a copy so your message is not lost. I delete those once I have picked them up.

You get a short email back confirming it arrived.

Nobody else is involved. There is no form service and no reCAPTCHA, so your answers are not passed through anyone else’s servers on the way to me. Spam is caught with a hidden field that people never see and automated scripts fill in.

To stop the form being used to send hundreds of messages, the site counts how many have come from one internet connection in the past hour. It stores a scrambled one-way version of your IP address to do that, not the address itself, and it is thrown away after an hour.

If something in the form needs correcting, your answers come back with it so you do not have to type them again. They are held in a cookie for fifteen minutes and then gone. Nothing you type ever appears in a web address.

Server logs

The site is hosted by 34SP. Like almost all web hosting, their servers keep access logs that record the address of each request, including your IP address, the page you asked for and the time. These are kept by the host for security and troubleshooting. I do not use them to identify anyone.

Cookies

This site sets no tracking or advertising cookies. WordPress sets a cookie only if someone logs in to edit the site, which means me. The enquiry form sets one, for fifteen minutes, and only if the form comes back with something to correct, so your answers are still there. It holds what you typed and nothing else.

Content from other places

The DJ page shows cover art for mixes hosted on Mixcloud. Those images are loaded from Mixcloud when the page opens, which means Mixcloud can see your IP address and that you visited that page. The rest of the site loads only from this domain. Links out to other websites are ordinary links, and those sites have their own policies.

If you get in touch

If you email, call, or send the form, I keep the message so I can reply and keep track of the work. I do not add anyone to a mailing list and I do not pass anything on.

Your rights

You can ask me what I hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask me to delete it. Email me and I will sort it. If you are not happy with how I handle it, you can raise it with the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.

Changes

If I add anything that collects data, analytics for example, I will update this page before it goes live.
