Two years on and the Refuge pattern keeps being put to work. The menus now carry the cube motif in red and green, and the mobile DJ booth in the dining room is wrapped in a pale colourway with speakers either side.
The pattern was first designed for the opening of the Refuge, and for the guerrilla marketing campaign that ran alongside it. The cube was one of many designs I worked through before deciding what to put in front of the client. It was the one that stuck.
This time my part was small. I supplied the pattern, both as print and as digital files for the menus, and the venue put it to use. The menus and the booth are theirs. The handwriting is shared.
A pattern designed for one campaign has become the venue’s handwriting. That is the quiet definition of a job that worked.

Part of The Palace Is a Refuge.
